TREBUCHET

Ideas from around the world and throughout history that make life better for ordinary people

Practicaly every public institution in America today needs to be scrapped or reformed. Political corruption is so pervasive, that the American Government is all but controlled by a tight-knit group of the entitled. The new Mafia. And boy are they proud of it. You can tell by the way they love to look us in the face as they ram it down our throats.

It started in the eighties, when corporations set out to gut the EPA over PCBs, stalling in court, filling key EPA offices with their operatives, until the outcome of the legal proceedings was guaranteed to let them off scot free.

In just forty years wealthy corporations, using the same strategy, have undermined every institution ever created to serve the people, transforming them into rubber-stamp functionaries that serve nobody but their creators - huge corporations. Why? Because wealthy corporations have been allowed to get so big and so powerful, that now the Government is beholden to them. The US Government has assumed a subordinate position to monied interests. An monied interests have the Government by the short hairs.

If the Government had done it's job, funneled tax revenue, collected from the people, into research that benefits the people - research that, formally, private industry could not afford - as they did with NASA, and with silicon valley, the American people would already have affordable healthcare, just like every other civilized country in the world does; the American people would have affordable internet, affordable phone service, affordable utilities, affordable medicine.

But instead, government lets wealthy corporations co-opt its mandate. Now, corporations govern the people. And the one's that get the most favorable treatment from the Government, are the ones that pay the least taxes. Isn't that proof enough, who's in control? It's all upside-down. And we just keep sucking down that pablam, and going about our drug-induced lives, like this is the greatest country in the world. It's unfathomable. And by God, we earned it.

The Government still provides roads. Fortunately. What do you think the alternative is? Tolls. The Government used to control space exploration. The benefits of that endeavor filtered doen to everyone. Now we've got private industry taking over space exploration. One man, in the not too distant future, will own outer space! Maybe, if we're lucky, and do what he wants, he'll share an arc of a degree of that bandwidth, out of his two hundred billion dollar benevolent heart.

To the extent the US Government entrusts the welfare of the people to private industry, the people will wind up doing what private industry decides they should do. They'll keep the public barefoot and pregnant, because stupid people are so much easier to fool. Humor me. Are "public" corporations owned by the public? Fuck no! "Public" corporations are owned by rich people. Rich people own the corporations, and corporations control what the people have access to. Do the math: rich people own the public.

Space exploration wasn't the only government enterprise that accrued to benefit of the American people. Take the military. Where do you think we'd be right now, if not for supreme military power? Chew on that for a moment. But now we've got private military, too. Do you really think corporations are going to support a military that serves the people? Not on your life. It's all back scratching side-deals, read between the lines favors. Do you think Betsy de Vos became Education Secretary because she was the best pick for the job? Hell, no! She's Eric Prince's sister. Family. See, the US Government needed Eric's private military to clean up their shit in Iraq. And what a fine job they did, too. Yeah. Betsy was the obvious pick, in case the Government ever needed a military force not bound by the Geneva convention again. Yo want more. Oh, there's so much more. This is a bottomless crock.

Take communications. Everybody needs to be able to communicate electronically. Everybody should have equal access. Instead, corporations run all the utilities, all the medical care, all the education, all the farming. Big fish swallow little fish, and money continues to flow into the hands of fewer and fewer people. Taken it to its logical conclusion, at some point, just a few people will own and control everything and everyone. For the regular Joe, this is a game in which the only way to win, is not to play, friend. Yes, I'm convinced that the only way of ever hoping to participate in the American Dream is to jettison this corporation-engineered economy, and instead, trade among friends: "I do laundry, you do vegetables, let's make a deal. This is a new age: end-stage democracy. Last stop on the road to totalitarianism. All aboard!

Organized crime's most recent acquisition was SCOTUS. That's right, the Suprem Court. On the world stage, the Supreme Court of the United States is now the Supreme Embarrassment of the United States; the Supreme Joke of the United States. And guess who's the butt of the joke: that's right, the American people.

Happy? All you stupid fuckers who keep listening to people like Trump and Gaetz and Lindsay Graham, and that cocaine-snortin' My Pillow guy. Can't you see those people are mentally ill? Sarah Palin, for Christ sake! Marjorie Taylor-Graham. How can you be so goddamn stupid?
